The latest issue of Grind™ magazine features a fantastic article about a $200 million program to improve the water quality of the Great Barrier Reef lagoon by reducing potential nutrient, pesticide and sediment load, while helping improve farm productivity and profitability, is saving one of the natural wonders of the world.
When the Federal Government committed $200 million in 2008 to a five year plan that aims to better protect one of the world’s most magnificent natural assets in the Great Barrier Reef, it was initially treated with scepticism.
But almost four years on, the Reef Rescue initiative has brought together almost 2000 farmers and graziers who have been engaged and trained to graft a better understanding and improved use of natural resources.
Hopefully by the year 2013, ‘Reef Rescue’ has achieved significant results in bringing about increased awareness, changed behaviours and improved water quality in order to protect the Great Barrier Reef.
Take a look at the article on Page 12 in the latest edition of Grind™ magazine to read more!

This article is a fantastic read about the highly successful athlete, his childhood and his achievements. It depicts a side of Eckstein that is rarely seen and focuses on his motivated and ambitious attitude towards what he does and the gruelling and intensive training he relishes, to get to where he is right now in the Iron Man league.

Zarraffa’s Coffee Reedy Creek is situated at Tenancy 6, Reedy Creek Plaza Shopping Centre, Old Coach Road, Reedy Creek, QLD, 4227.
Rounding off 2011 and bringing us up to our 50th store milestone is Zarraffa’s Coffee Maroochydore, which opened on 5th December, 2011! The start of December is a historical week for Zarraffa's Coffee, marking both 10 years in franchising and the opening of our 50th store at Maroochydore, Sunshine Coast!
"We have built this business with the hard work and commitment of many people who have held true to what we have worked so hard to achieve; a superior coffee product, roasted by us, and delivered to our loyal customers with the highest standards of service and taste,” says Kenton Campbell, CEO and Founder of Zarraffa’s Coffee.
The Maroochydore store is Zarraffa’s Coffees 7th drive thru store and will be located at Shop 1, 28 Aerodrome Road, Maroochydore QLD.
“This means a lot on so many levels but as a privately owned company we all take pride in the achievement, especially considering the many economic factors that have worked against so many businesses in the past 5 years,” said Kenton Campbell, CEO.
Maroochydore is the perfect example of how our own franchisees continue to make money and back our brand by opening more stores. Franchisees Terry and Jeanette Bambury, who also own the Sunshine Plaza and Morayfield stores, have built on their own hard work by being a part of our franchise system to achieve their own business goals and financial rewards.”
“We are excited to open the drive thru store and provide quality, accessible coffee to the Sunshine Coast, including the many businesses on Aerodrome Rd and both our local residents and holiday visitors”, said Mr Bambury.
The location, combined with our experience with the brand and the popular coffee blend and drink range is sure to win over locals and commuters alike.”

Queensland’s own Zarraffa’s Coffee took its place on BRW Fast Franchises list this week for the fifth consecutive year.
Zarraffa’s Coffee CEO and founder, Kenton Campbell, is thrilled to announce, Zarraffa’s Coffee has ranked 20th fastest growing franchise by Outlets (up from 35th place last year) and ranked 21st fastest growing franchise by Revenue (up from 29th place last year)!
The annual list, published in a special edition of Australia’s leading business magazine (in stores today, 24th February), identifies Australia's fastest growing franchise systems over the past 12 months.
CEO and founder, Kenton Campbell is elated with the recognition of his company’s efforts over the past half decade, attributing it to a strong commitment to his Franchisees.
“We opened 14 stores in the most recent qualifying period with a close eye on how each new store will impact on the health of our existing franchises. It’s my best tip for growth; worry about the franchisees you have now, not the ones you may have in the future”, said Mr Campbell.
A step toward a new business model has also reaped rewards, with Zarraffa’s Coffee now boasting five Drive Thru sites.
“Making our product more accessible to our time-poor customers has paid off with all five Drive Thru stores reporting healthy turnovers. By diversifying our franchise offering we are able to cater to more new business owners in a wide variety of locations.”
When asked what has been the most satisfying aspect of running his business to date, Mr Campbell said it was seeing a brand that was bigger than himself.
“Starting out 15 years ago with a $9,000 loan and a love of coffee, it’s a dream to see Zarraffa’s Coffee now run by people as passionate as myself.”
“To have 46 stores around Queensland and Franchisees and our staff working together to drive the business and the brand is very rewarding.”
And there is much more to come from the specialty coffee chain with Mr Campbell looking forward to inclusion on the BRW Fast Franchises list for years to come.
“Our expansion plans for the next 12 to 24 months are exciting from a company perspective and also for potential franchisees. Recognition by BRW and the like is firm reassurance that we are headed in the right direction and as always we are thrilled to be included.”
In Issue #1 of Grind™ Magazine there were some great prizes up for grabs!

Phil, Gemma & Leon have all been listening & practicing attentively with their experienced mentor Brent Williams from Da Vinci Gourmet Syrup Australia. Brent said, ‘the training has been focused around learning the in’s and outs of competing. We have been focusing on the techniques and strengths of the baristas and adapting their techniques to be able to score well in the competition. I started with reviewing the rules, regulations & expectations of the judges with them. We then concentrated on cupping different beans/origins to allow the baristas to understand their chosen coffee and how processing/blending affects the flavour and how to explain this to the judges.’
Zarraffa’s Coffee Barista Champion 2010 Gemma Boxsell told us, ‘It’s an honour to be trained by the best, to be one of the best in such a successful franchise. She has been training and perfecting her unique beverage since winning the barista final. On winning the Queensland heat she says, ‘I would be very excited as it helps me to grow within the coffee industry I want to be in. I will be practicing in my sleep to perfect everything and continue in many more competitions.’
Phil Roggeveen has been hard at work in Zarraffa’s Coffee Robina and he tells us that, he’s ‘stoked’ at winning the latte art competition.‘I enjoy what I do and if I’m honest, pouring the perfect latte for a friend is just as much of a buzz as a title’! He has been continuously trying to perfect his art. ‘I have never been more critical of my designs. I’m now more aware of what it takes!
On winning the Queensland Latte Art heat he tells us he would shave his head and that he would look at becoming a professional barista trainer! So look out for a baldy barista the next time you call in for a coffee at Robina!!
